Madeleine is an environmental youth activist and a recent graduate of Barnard College in New York City. She spent her final academic year writing her thesis at the renowned Columbia University Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory researching microbead abundance off the Korean Peninsula. She began speaking out against water issues at the age of nine, when she founded her first non-profit organization called Superheroes Needed, a national non-profit that raised awareness about climate change and water drought in Africa and was acknowledged by Bill McKibben’s national climate rally. In addition to her role as a 5Gyres Ambassador, Madeleine is the Microplastics Policy and Science Fellow at Seeding Sovereignty.
